Reactions from the Irish crowd (overheard at the Sheraton):
1. The motion was not precisely brilliant.
2. If Oxford D didn't win, the lifespan of the judge panel might be severely reduced.
They went on to describe in quite some detail how they would kill the judges - y'know. You should ask Ciarán about it...

That motion was fantastic - a complex motion on an incredibly important issue. Just because the debate wasn't fantastic, don't blame the motion.
Anyone who thinks that motion was no good does not know anything about debating.

It's 3:00 am in Oxford, and I'm still awake thanks to this wonderful blog and the wonderful news that I'm sure you will announce to us all in a little while...
Keep it up guys, you've been fabulous!

sorry, it's one of the worst motions of the competition......if that is a fantastic motion I'd rather know nothing about debating......a debaye full of "but your plan won't work!" vs. "yeah but your plan is kind of the same and also won't work" is rubbish......
That's the fault of the debaters, not the fault of the motion. Its not a case where the motion automatically induces a bad debate - i have seen many outstanding debates done on this motion, involving complex discussions of economic v social and environmental rights.
Its a good motion. Wasn't the greatest debate tho, i agree.

And who said it wasn't a good debate.
