The GF panel is obviously of a really high standard. The concern though is that it does look very homogenous in terms of gender (only 2 females?!) and nationality/background. Surely the grand final of "worlds" should reflect the makeup of the competition of a whole.. the anglo/northern perspective is surely not the only or best one in the world.

I agree. Only one judge not from IONA or N America, and that was the DCA!

Regardless; Australia has been belting the living daylights of Britain in the real world... Cricket!

no the Worlds GF panel should have the best judges on it. In the final is Oxbridge and Australia. Where do the judges come from? Oxbridge/UK and Australia. Seems to make sense to me...

The problem with the "best judges" argument is that most of the panel have either won worlds or been in the grand final. That makes them the best *debaters*, not the best adjudicators. second, those "best debaters" are only recognised as being such because they have a very similar style, and will in turn reward that style whenever they see is as being the best one. There are a heap of talented australian/asian adjudicators at this worlds, only having one on the finals panel is a travesty. Get the old colonial hacks to move on up and out.

yeah thats reasonable.

It would have been good if there was an asian adjudicator. But the question remains, who do you leave out?

Can't leave out the Adj Panel and you shouldn't leave out Jo or Hayley (who are both fantastic adjudicators). That leaves Jeremy, Neill, and Ian. All pretty qualified adjudicators (not just debaters.) Hard to leave any one of them out!

Pick the best adjudicators regardless of nationality I say.

Ian IS Asian. He's Filipino and was with Ateneo before.

What about Jens 'custard pants' Fischer, a fine adjudicator.

Better than a blind monkey with a blunt pin anyday... well almost.
