Also, thanks for an excellent blog...

Which kiwis are here?

Anonymous said...

wow. does any one know how long this should take?

Anonymous said...

could be any length of time. depends on how many people wish to speak for and for how long. knowing canadians, probably quite a while.

Joe Connell said...

Quoting form a post below:

...
Erin O'Brien on behalf of Queensland A:

Apparently there is embarrasing gossip about Ranald, which has found its way into the collective memory of the Australasian debating community ...

No idea what that refers to. Someone asked what kiwis are here...well, I am. And for the time being I am throwing away my moral opposition to nationalism. Go Ranald!

Anonymous said...

hmm. u just insulted canadians. and ure wrong.

Unknown said...

We'll have none of that when we host it in 2009! Long speeches equal less drinkng time.

Anonymous said...

and where are you from?

Anonymous said...

i am looking forward to Cork Worlds already. Plenty of free booze please too

Anonymous said...

shes from cork. whereever that is....

Anonymous said...

you going to be about in 09 Jeni?

Anonymous said...

yeah is it true that the free drink situation was as dire as ciaran says this year?

Unknown said...

You mean you doubt the booze issue. Please! Knowing Art he's probably got got all the brewies n speed dial.

Unknown said...

Of course I'll be there... Debating plus piss up equals a fun time throw n a Jeni and you got the best party ever!! lol Ill still be in college so i'l have to make an appearance.

Anonymous said...

will u seriously?
what will you be doing?

Anonymous said...

to be honest it's a little rich of Ciaran to complain about the free booze. UCD Worlds limited people to four drinks on the first night "In case they ran out". They cut off the booze from midnight until 1am on break night. They banned people from socialising/mixing/drinking on a cpl of other nights due to some bug going about. Other times there was just vinegary wine served in a pint glass. And now I see on the L and H page that apparently there is lots of booze for freshers joining UCD L+H 'cos people at Worlds couldn't drink it all.... which is bizzare, given we weren't given much of a chance.

Anonymous said...

Speaking of Ciaran... He has posted results on his blog...

where, where is this ciaran person, WHERE!?

Unknown said...

LIKE A DOG......

Declan Bruton said...

who are you annon prat? UCD worlds had unlimited drink, the bar closed on new years for one hour to allow the staff, all ucd student vols, to spend an hour with friends and loved ones then the bar re-opened.....as for the four drinks....hands up anyone who got around that by asking fo more...on paper four....in reality.....all you wanted...and a choice too....there was never a time were the only option was wine, bar the dinner, which was an actual real dinner, and as a last point......hands up who thinks a fair bit of free drink is better tham lying about having free drink and then providing none? Thought so......

Anonymous said...

Er... he's at the tournament?

He says Sydney won.

Anonymous said...

Congrats Sydney!

First Australian win since Glasgow 2001.

Declan... blood pressure!!! :)

Anonymous said...

yes that fantastic dinner with two bottles of wine per table of 6-8, along with 7 euro 20 for a gin and tonic... what a wonderful evening that was.

Anonymous said...

also four drinks per person is not "unlimited". If that was the case then there wouldn't have been tokens handed out to people. Also and with the greatest of respect shutting down the bar straight after midnight on new years eve isn't exactly the coolest thing to have done.

Unknown said...

I'm with declan on this. I had way more than four drinks on the first night. and the second and the third.. etc etc. And I'm sorry if you expect to be served anywhere in the world just after minight for at least half an hour you are the most deluded person ever. I work in a pub and wile we may be working we also have loved ones to ring and people we'd like to say happy new year. And if all you can complain about is not getting free drink for half an hour or so at UCD WUDC I think that shows what a fantastic tourniment it was. One that Cork have alot of work cut out for them if we even want to match the standard of it, let alone top it.

But yes Sydney have won.

And in answer to your question Niall I'll be in Galway persuing a Masters in Accounting.

Declan Bruton said...

sorry niall....no time for the ungrateful :) esp the anon moaners......i hope for everyones sake that UBC lay on a huge party tonight.....well done OZ :) sure half of ye are irish!

Anonymous said...

well goodnight kids, it's been emotional...

Anonymous said...

if Cork Worlds is anything like the last one it'll be terrific (drinking wise). Maybe not the tab!

Unknown said...

nigt night folks been good chatting with ye, see some of ye soon ..... happy new year

Anonymous said...

Anyone know where/when a full speaker and team tab will be available for those of us who weren't there?
